In The Studio
I welcome interested potential clients to my studio. My procedure, similar to Henry Moore's, is to create a small clay model of a subject that can be enlarged to a specified size. A permanent, plaster-backed rubber mold is then made off the piece from which a wax is poured and finished.

The word permanent is used because it can be used to pour as many waxes as needed to complete an edition. Another mold made of refractory material is made around the wax. This mold is then placed in an oven to melt away the wax.

This process is referred to as "the lost wax process" and was first invented by the Chinese to make cannons. Bronze is then poured into this cavity producing a casting. This is chased/finished in preparation for patinating. Using chemicals, an appropriate patina is applied to the bronze.
